Matthew McGinness has worked in consulting and strategic marketing roles in the financial services industry for more than a dozen years. His experience includes the leadership of a broad range of key initiatives, both as a business owner within firms and as a consultant, and spans both distribution and manufacturing of products and advice. In particular, Matthew’s areas of expertise include human capital management, compensation plan design, client satisfaction surveys, customer experience design, the development and marketing of advisory platforms, pricing strategy, and financial advisor recruitment and retention strategies.

Prior to establishing Best Practice Research, Matthew was Vice President of Business Consulting for LPL Financial Services, the nation’s largest independent broker/dealer. He directed the delivery of business analysis and practice management consulting services to LPL’s top financial advisors, with an emphasis on actionable recommendations to improve both bottom-line profitability and gross revenue growth rate. In addition, he managed the firm’s customer survey initiatives, including benchmark satisfaction surveys and research to support strategic initiatives. Matthew also held management roles in LPL’s Product Marketing and Advisory Consulting Services departments. In these roles, he developed and executed marketing and training programs to drive managed account asset growth, directed the firm’s third-party managed accounts business and led a broad range of strategic initiatives for the firm’s executive management team.

Matthew joined LPL from Cerulli Associates, a leading strategy research and consulting firm focused on the financial services industry. He served as Associate Director and managed the firm’s Intermediary research practice, focusing on the distribution of advice and product in the U.S. financial services industry. While with Cerulli, Matthew led and participated in strategic consulting engagements with a variety of broker/dealers, asset managers, insurers, investment banks, commercial banks, and technology vendors that resulted in the development of new markets for these firms’ services or validated existing and proposed strategies. He also authored numerous studies in the Cerulli ReportTM series, including reports on advisor adoption of fee-based pricing, the RIA market, wholesaling, and alternative investments. In addition, he conducted numerous keynote and roundtable sessions for firm and industry conferences and has been quoted frequently in industry publications.

Prior to joining Cerulli Associates, Matthew held positions in product development, RIA sales, and investment analysis with Columbia Management (then Liberty Funds.)

Matthew attended Colby College, where he earned a B.A. with honors in Government.
